About John Greenwell
One attendee at the BuilConn meeting comes from Continental Electrical Construction of Chicago. He’s a project manager, John Greenwell – and I met him at this event one year ago.
What I didn’t realize (b/c I can’t put 2 and 2 together without a lot of help) is that John is the author of an article I’ve read (and referenced b4 on this site) about electrical contractors and building automation.
The article is here. I referenced it back on April 5.
Among other things I didn’t realize:
- The author of the article is the guy I met last year at BuilConn. Dumb.
- John has written two other articles for automatedbuildings.com. See links below.
- Continental Electrical Construction has made some interesting moves on building systems technology. More on that as I get it this week.

Cisco + Building Technology
I’m at the BuilConn conference, which is short for “building connectivity.” I attended last year. The conference is about the places that IT, building systems, new technology, and imaginative ideas intersect.
The first day featured an all-day session sponsored by Cisco Systems. The session isn’t being run or dominated by Cisco, however – there are roughly 40 invited guests for a “roundtable” event.
What came out in the morning session:
An exec from CB Richard Ellis noted – several times – that energy costs do not matter to CBRE’s clients, as they are “passed through” to tenants.
An IT guy from Harvard University – an implementer, not a teacher – said that all of the fuss about “convergence” was just marketing.
A Cisco guy made a brief presentation on the company’s Connected Real Estate “vision.”
There is a lot more to tell. I’ll get in here, soon.

Long Time Between Posts
I’ve been behind on some deadlines and haven’t been posting to this Blog. However, I’ve got some new, interesting stuff that will follow this week.
I apologize for my shortcomings! – Joe
